Systematics
Overview is an introduction course for Systematic Theology. It is
for those who want to establish a foundation of theological concepts
and terminology on which to build their theological framework. In
this course Dr. Penhearow not only covers the essentials of all
major areas of Systematic Theology but also shows the methodology of
the theological study. Focusing on the Reformed theology, Dr.
Penhearow emphasizes the Doctrine of Grace. This course has been
taught in a few different countries as a foundational course of
Carey Outreach Ministries.

Course Pre-requisites:
This course is offered at both the Undergraduate and
Graduate levels. There is no pre-requisite for the
Undergraduate Course. For the Graduate Course, a
Bachelor's Degree is required.

Course Requirements:

Reading. All assigned reading is required.

Attendance. Attendance at lectures is mandatory.
Failure to attend at least 80% of the lectures will
result in an automatic F, unless there are
extenuating circumstances.

Research Paper.
The purpose of the paper is to develop a
biblical-theological insight to certain doctrines.
Undergraduate (12-15 pages), Graduate (15-20 pages).
Remember to avoid spelling and grammar mistakes.
Evidence of wide research will be looked for in the
bibliography. Be careful not to plagiarize or your
paper will be rejected. Independent research is
required.

Exam. This will be based upon readings and
lectures. 50 4-choice questions will be in the final
exam for those who want the credits.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

Understand the nature and the methodology of theology.
2.
Summarize what the Bible teaches on the subjects commonly discussed
in theological literature.
3.
Establish a foundation of theological terms and concepts for future
studies in theology.
4.
Identify major doctrinal controversies in the history of the church
and show how they affected the study of theology.
5.
Apply good theological methods to analyze issues not explicitly
discussed in the course.
6.
Appreciate the significance of understanding basic theological
concepts for the Christian life.
7.
Analyze your own spiritual life in light of biblical doctrine in
order to identify areas for growth.
8.
Place a high value on theology for spiritual growth. |
